Responsibilities:

As a Floorhand at Big Country Drilling, your primary responsibility will be to provide support in the drilling rig's daily operations. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the rigging up and rigging down of drilling equipment, ensuring it is properly assembled and disassembled.
  • Handling and connecting drilling pipes, drill collars, and other drilling tools under the direction of the Derrick hand or Driller.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks on drilling equipment, such as greasing, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Conduct regular inspections of drilling tools and equipment, reporting any defects or issues to the Driller or Supervisor.
  • Always ensure a clean and organized work area, including the rig floor and core shack.
  • Participating in the mixing and circulation of drilling fluids, adhering to established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Assisting with the dismantling and set up of mud pumps and mud tanks.
  • Operating equipment such as 1-ton trucks, trailers, and floor winches as required for rig operations.
  • Assisting in the training and mentoring of new or less experienced crew members.
  • Adhering to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks on associated equipment, ensuring they are in optimal condition.
  • Assisting with downhole core retrieval during coring operations
  • Participating in the inspection and maintenance of drilling tools and equipment, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards.

 

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Previous experience as a Floorhand or similar role in the oil and gas industry is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to withstand the demands of the job, including lifting heavy objects and working in challenging weather conditions.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform routine maintenance tasks on drilling equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to ensure clear and accurate information exchange.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and collaborate with crew members to achieve common goals.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Valid oil field tickets (Willing to train the right candidate)
  • Valid driver's license with clean abstract (Preference given to Class 3 and Class 1 drivers)
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Be proficient with digital software tools that are used for safety documentation, employee status and equipment work orders.
